Tips for Learning How to Play the Piano
Most people associate piano with geniuses and the rich because of the skill, time, and resources required to master it. Not all of us are born Ludwig van Beethoven or Franz Liszt, but even those gifted musicians spent a lot of time training and working to be good.

Here are tips to help learning the piano less intimidating.
Set a goal to help you keep focused. It does not have to be anything grand like a piano recital just yet, but work on small goals as you learn so you can keep track of your progress. You can start by playing one favorite song after a few months. Pick a genre that you like. Do not just limit yourself to playing the classics.
Practice sight reading. This is a technique that lets you read the notes faster. The only way to do this is to keep playing. It will come naturally if you practice more often.

Watch out for bad habits early. Sometimes the problem with learning an instrument on your own is that you cannot see mistakes and correct them before they become a difficult habit to break. Good piano playing skills require that you learn the basic properly including proper posture. Be mindful of the small details always. However, do not be too hard on yourself for every little mistake because if you can already recognize them, you are already improving.
Do not neglect practice. You do not master the piano overnight, not even within a year especially if you are also learning notes and rhythm scales for the time. Commit yourself to regular practice if you want to get good. Even just half an hour or practice daily is better than a week-long of classes without a follow-up.

Stay relaxed. Pounding the keys will not make you a better pianist. It will feel more natural if you let your hands glide over the keys.
Learn and memorize your piece. Remember that advice about working towards a goal? If you are working towards being able to play a song, you need to study it piece by piece, Divide the song into smaller sections to make it easier to memorize.

Do not work towards playing fast. Your goal as a beginner is to be able to ply the piece as accurately as possible. Speed is not something you should be aiming for unless you have mastered all the basics. You will be able to play faster with more experience through practice and mastery.
Find a teacher. There are online tutorials you can look up online if you cannot afford to pay a music teacher, but if you can, you should consider having one. It is better to have a trained person watching over you as you learn and to keep yourself motivated.
