Sakura viewing is locally called Hanami. You should head directly to Tokyo and marvel over Sakura and how their beauty captures many people. The Hanami festival will be held in Roppongi District from April 19-20, 2014. The theme for this year is “Move Your Body”. It will feature contemporary arts of Japanese and there will be 830,000 visitors expected to come.

  • Know when to visit: If you do not want to waste your time and resources, you should time your visit when the sakuras are in full bloom. The blooming of sakuras usually happens from March to April. If you are uncertain, you can always visit the website of Japan’s Tourism Board.
  • Stay at Ryokan: You are in Japan, might as well experience how locals live. You should stay at Ryokan. Ryokans are inns that feature hot spring, kaiseki meals and tatami rooms. You should not worry because there are many Ryokan around.
